I Only Feel One Beat
By Mark
The lights blaze their path across the floor
Reds, blues and colours many more
Each colour changing with the music
Does the colour change the music?
How can I tell?
I look at them
All enjoying without knowing
Dancing without caring
Every pair a winner
Knowing sound is colour
I see the colours
I feel the floor
I can not hear the beat
A dancer I will not make
My silent world is hard to take
My dress is the loveliest,
My face is the prettiest
Only one knows my name
To all others, I am not known as me
But as the one, who is deaf as a tree
Feet step the same step
Left following right
Right following left
The beat shows the path
Rhythm leads the body
Their eyes locked and stare
Love smiling, pulses racing
They dance unaware
Moving to the beat
Bodies moving like hands they greet
Girls with grace dip and swirl
Men bend, reach and twirl
Dresses flow, colours glow
Men like penguins strut
I wish, oh I wish, but…
To be deaf is not to hear
To be blind is not to see
The blind can hear
And I can see
And forever I will be me
I see what others do not hear
The cheating looks and glances
My feet may not dance
But my body can prance
My love will always last
He stands next to me
Holding my hand
His smile says, “Don't Worry”
To see, taste, touch and smell
Four out of five is OK
In the dark he may cry
Tho' I will not hear
I will lick each salty tear
To let him know
I'll always be near
My love will not be taken
It is mine alone to share
The only beat I hear
Is his heart next to my ear,
I only feel one beat.
