The Demon

By Mark

I saw you come in
Lost in a place you knew
Familiar places once
Now full of danger
The fear on your face

Eyes wide searching
Looking for a way out
Lurching unsteadily
Arms thrashing
On legs you don't own

I saw you fall
Collapse, shake, and drown
In a place you won't remember
Blindly trying, trying O' so hard
To excise the demon

The demon you never knew
Let loose in a one so young and clean
Just waiting to hack and screw
Your body jerks, arms and legs work,
But too late, there's no escape

I want to pick you up
Run from here
Take you away
Away from the people who stare
Hold you

Take your demon
He has had me before,
Let him take me again
Why toy with your brain
Why did he take you so young?

You come back
Not back but here
Looking not seeing
Wanting to trust
Not trusting yourself

God, how can I tell you?
What ever your dreams were,
Gone forever, All Gone
The demon owns you
His dreams are yours now

You can no longer be, a pilot, bus driver, taxi driver, truck driver, sailor, soldier, policeman, nurse, mechanic, diver, fireman, teacher or ever be safely be left alone again.

Do I have to go on?
I want to give you
All the demon has taken
My heart wants to envelop you
Take you somewhere safe

Take those eyes that look so lost
The body that's so broken
Take the next hour
The hour of mistrust
The hour that is lost

Why would you let me help?
Why would you trust me?
Why would you ever tell anyone?
How can you tell I have the demon?
Not by looking

Why would you?
You are one of us
Invisible vampires
Vampires of epilepsy
Your future sucked dry

Someday you must
Some day you MUST hold that hand
HOLD that demon's hand
Trade your soul
For a little peace

Knowing you are never alone
The demon always waiting
Clouded by anti convulsive drugs
Futures goals, dreams lost
Second is now the best

O' son let me take that demon
Take him on my other shoulder
I'll give him whatever he wants
You don't know how sad I am
Welcome to your new life

Feeling for the young epileptic boy who
Had his first fit
